#WWI – A #trekking #weekend of #remembrance, to honour the life of those who fought on the Friulian #Alps, hills and planes

If you choose to join us on a “trekking weekend of remembrance”, we will guide you through some of the most important battlefields in Friuli, the north eastern corner on the border with Austria and Slovenia, where the battles where made harder by the impervious terrain on which they were fought.

You will walk on the ridge of the mountains to discover trenches, communication trenches, observation towers, tunnels, bunkers, artillery locations, machine guns and rifles; on the summit you will appreciate the incredible closeness between the two opposing lines of defence, situated only a few hundred meters from each other, in some cases only tens of meters.

Italian_and_Austrian_battle_peaks

Learn about the history of women who become heroines of history: the Carnic Bearers (Portatrici Carniche), who continually risked their lives, in order to guarantee the communications between trenches and front lines, sneaking in with food and ammunition for the fighters.

We have designed an itinerary which starts from the plains and gentle hills around Ragogna and ends the next day with a full day trekking experience on one of three open air battlefields in the mountainous “Carnia Zone“ on the border with Austria.

Forte_Monte_FestaThis area is so rich in “War locations” that we could not fit them all in in a short weekend. We have mentioned just a few, leaving to you the choice among those we have suggested. If you however have any other locations dear to your heart because maybe one of your ancestors fought in Friuli, feel welcome to give us the details and we will work out an itinerary based on your suggestions, and if needs be, extend your stay by one or more nights.

An historical expert of World War I will be with us at all times.

#Twitter detox in an #Alpine hut on the #Dolomites – winter

There are numerous audio-visual files on the web at your disposal if you are trying to relax by means of listening to the sounds of nature.

We, instead, offer you “the real thing”: from the Alpine hut you will listen to the tweets, the real ones, not those of twitter, because you will leave twitter and facebook at home in the city, for a couple of days.

Twitter_detox_inverno_in_baita_con_ACTMLtd

In the woods you will listen to the sounds of the wild animals including birds, you will hear the rustle of leaves and branches, smell the mountain scents and the flavours of mountain cuisine, you will take your time to read a book or to tell a joke to your friends whilst sitting around the open-fire and drinking a glass of excellent local wine.

ACTMLtd_Twitter_detox_fogolar_in_baita

ACTMLtd_Twitter_detox_interno_baita_stufa_e_sofa

For two enchanted days (or longer if you wish), you will detox from city-stress and modern life, and will discover how beautiful it is to live a “slow-life” for a few hours together with your dearest ones.

Twitter detox is ideal for a group of friends or for a family with kids: the accommodation is similar to that of the Alpine Huts, with a 6-beds communal room plus a double room which offers a little more privacy to 2 people.

p.s. For the web fanatics, an internet connection is available, but if you’ll use it, the twitter detox will not work properly
